Study of Lithium Disilicate Based Nano Glass Ceramics Containing P2O5

Multi component lithium disilicate based glasses containing P2O5 have been synthesized by conventional melt quenching technique. The replacement of (Li2O + SiO2) and its nucleating effect has discussed. Structural features were evaluated differential thermal analysis (DTA), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) Raman spectroscopy. glass samples converted into ceramics following three stage heat treatment schedules. X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), high angle annular dark imaging (HAADF), energy dispersive (EDX) resolution transmission (HR-TEM) carried out for the ceramics. Vickers microhardness (Hv) indentation fracture toughness (KIC) all measured. UV–Visible spectroscopy study to investigate optical properties. ceramic with 1.5 mol % highest transmittance. Glass ≥ 1 having Li2Si2O5 (LS2) as main phase exhibit Hv about 6.71–6.82 GPa which is suitable dental armor applications.
